Acquisition
The Virus Sample Analyzer can only be be acquired by crafting it in the Fabricator.
Uses[]
The function of the Virus Sample Analyzer is to take an Input Item, one usually related to a Virus, Analyze it, and Output a purified form of the virus for you to use. You will need to play a very short minigame where you use your scientific expertise to purify the substance of your choice by separating out the contaminants by Size, PH, and Acidity. Once completed, you will be given your purified reward.
The Size Separation is fairly self-explanatory, but here is a cheat-sheet for the PH and Acidity sections:

The Virus Sample Analyzer is unlocked as a Research Recipe in the Research Station upon scanning the Virus Sample Analyzer in the Virus Lab in the Underdust.
